EasyJet has announced a significant reduction in losses for the six months ending in March, with a pre-tax loss expected to range between £340 and £360 million (€397 and €420 million). This is against the forecasted loss of £390 million (€455 million), marking an increase of more than £50 million (€58 million) compared to last year, as reported in today's financial update. The low-cost British airline attributed the results to increasing capacity where demand was highest and making operations more efficient. It says it kept costs stable despite higher fuel prices, 6% inflation per seat, and fa...

Washington (AFP) - A joint US-Canadian military monitoring agency continued this year its decades-long Christmas tradition of tracking Santa's whereabouts, helping children around the globe find out when his reindeer-powered, present-filled sleigh would be coming to town. A 3-D, interactive website at www.noradsanta.org showed Santa Claus and his reindeer on their imagined worldwide delivery route, allowing users to click and learn more about the various cities along the way. The Santa tracker presented by the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) dates to 1955, when a Colorado news...

Launched in 2009, the event raises funds for Grind for Life, a charity helping cancer patients travel for treatment, as well as the local surf museum. New York (AFP) - US retailers' efforts to attract holiday gift buyers build to a crescendo this weekend as the "Black Friday" shopping day kicked off with big discounts. The major sales day after Thanksgiving, a custom increasingly adopted in Europe and other markets, comes amid lingering unease over the economy this year. As a result, markdowns are expected to be especially deep, reflecting the pressure stores are under to lure US consumers jaded by stubborn inflation for some goods and lingering effects from Covid-19 upheaval. "Black Friday" will be followed by the newer "Cyber Monday," as t...
