Improving competitiveness (better conditions for businesses), cutting bureaucracy, protecting jobs and supporting the green transition are just a few of the key pledges from the party groups ahead of the European Parliament elections taking place 6-9 June. Turning on the economic growth engine in the continent for the next five years appears to be a complicated task. The current output is little more than zero and the outlook for the next years appears to be stark, according to the IMF which states: "Europe's medium-term growth prospects have been declining for some time." The last five years ...

First there was quiet quitting. Then there was quiet firing. In the last few months, loud quitting has made an appearance. Loud quitting, although not necessarily an actual resignation, happens when employees are actively and openly disengaged and dissatisfied with their jobs, often being very vocal about their issues. This may lead to more complaints, a refusal to do certain tasks, joining forces with other co-workers to demand more changes or threatening to leave unless these happen. Not only that, several loud quitters may also try explicitly to undermine company or team goals, or "name and...

Croatian retailers are displeased with a law that prohibits shopping on most Sundays, saying it is threatening small businesses and driving layoffs in a crucial sector of the economy. The Trade Law, which was passed last year, allows retailers to choose only 16 Sundays per year when they can open their stores. While unions seem to be satisfied with it, many entrepreneurs in wholesale and retail trade are not. The five large shopping centres in Zagreb say Sunday revenue tends to be higher, and that the non-working Sundays imposed this year could hurt them to the tune of €50 million euros. Owner...

Having a side hustle earlier on was seen as a smart way of earning extra income, presumably doing something you loved and setting your own hours. Very often, it was also a way to test the waters with a new idea or passion project, with the intention of hopefully turning to it full-time, if it made enough money. However, with the cost of living having risen significantly over the last few years, side hustles have now become more of a necessity than an option, with several people relying significantly on the extra income to pay essential bills. Side hustles are also a way of insulating yourself ...
