Washington (AFP) - The US Supreme Court appeared divided on Monday as it heard a challenge to Purdue Pharma's $6 billion opioids settlement immunizing the Sackler family that controlled the drugmaker from future litigation. The Justice Department is arguing that the Sacklers, who earned tens of billions of dollars flooding the country with highly addictive opioids, should not gain sweeping legal protection in the controversial deal. Last year's agreement, which came after years of negotiations involving officials from all 50 US states, set aside $6 billion from the 2019 bankruptcy of Purdue, w...

Purdue game review. Game Day I got to Lincoln about 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning enough time to have a leisurely lunch in downtown Lincoln. When we were done eating, my group and I made our way north toward Memorial Stadium. Going in the same direction were the usual hordes of red clad Husker fans also making their way to the game. Including Saturday's home game with Purdue, the four remaining games with Ohio State, at Wisco...

Washington (AFP) - US drugmaker Purdue Pharma filed a new bankruptcy plan that would see its founders pay an additional $1.5 billion to settle the company's role in the devastating opioid crisis. The offer made in a restructuring plan filed late on Monday was rejected by two dozen state attorneys general, who said it falls short. "We are disappointed in this plan. While it contains improvements over the proposal that Purdue announced and we rejected in September 2019, it falls short of the accountability that families and survivors deserve," the state officials said in a joint statement.
