Never a dull week in OU athletics, and we’re not even talking about the guys who are going to get well acquainted with Schmidty this summer. The Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop is back to recap it all, including some crazy developments with the proposed new arena. New arena setback? No other way to describe it. After such optimism last week during the presentation about the new arena coming through, that did not feel positive Tuesday. It did not go well at the City of Norman’s meeting of the City Council. There was a lot of opposition to the city’s $1 billion entertainment district that ...

OU head basketball coach Porter Moser has been all for trying to continue the Bedlam basketball tradition. When addressing the topic last season, he said OSU coach Mike Boynton and himself were not against it. Boynton is out, and Steve Lutz is in. But what we’ve learned? Nothing has changed. And Lutz gave everybody an idea of what could be coming. In talking to CBS’ Jon Rothstein, Lutz there are no contracts yet, but a Bedlam battle is on track to be played at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City in mid-December. “I think why not? It’s meant a lot to the state and it’s been a rivalry,” said Mose...

OU might finally get its new arena. The university, along with city of Norman officials, finally released renderings Wednesday of the proposed $1 billion entertainment district, which will include an 8,000-seat arena for men’s and women’s basketball and women’s gymnastics. The next step for the entertainment district will be on June 13 when the city commission plan will vote on its approval. Shortly after that — likely sometime in July or August — Norman City Council will then vote on its approval. If it passes, they hope to begin construction in 2025 with the hope of the arena being done for ...

Jennie Baranczyk believes she has a chance to build something special at OU. Baranczyk, who was the 2023-24 Big 12 Coach of the Year and a national coach of the year finalist, has been one of the hottest names in women’s college basketball. She was mentioned as a top candidate for several head coach openings in April, including at Tennessee. And when long-time Iowa coach Lisa Bluder retired on Monday, many thought Baranczyk — an Iowa alum — might be a candidate. The Hawkeyes instead promoted from within the program. Still, it’s clear top schools are interested in Baranczyk, who has led the Soo...
