Washington (AFP) - US Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, who has found himself under scrutiny over his judicial decisions and accepting lavish gifts from a billionaire Republican, is dismissing the criticism as "nastiness" and "lies," according to US media. Thomas, who previously had not reported lavish vacations paid for by real estate tycoon and Republican donor Harlan Crow, said he took free flights on Crow's private jet last year for security reasons after the leak of the high court's controversial decision to overrule abortion rights. "Because of the increased security risk following the Dobbs opinion leak, the May flights wer...

A July 2009 bank statement showed that Crow's business had paid a $6,000 monthly bill for a boarding school attended by Mark Martin, Thomas's te...

Washington (AFP) - A written opinion by one justice in the US Supreme Court's decision to bury abortion rights has ignited fears that other progressive gains, including same-sex marriage and contraception, could also be overturned. Clarence Thomas, one of the most conservative justices on the court, wrote that "in future cases" also involving privacy "we should reconsider." Thomas cited Griswold v Connecticut, which enshrined the right to contraception in 1965; Lawrence v. Texas, which struck down laws penalizing same-sex relationships in 2003, and Obergefell v. Hodges, the 2015 ruling protect...
