Phil Mogg says UFO is officially done. “I think it’s come to a conclusion,” the frontman admitted during a conversation with UCR’s Matt Wardlaw. “We did that last U.K. tour in 2019, just before COVID. So that was kind of the end of it and the time was right.” UFO had planned to sign-off in a more elaborate way. The hard rock group launched their farewell tour in 2019 to coincide with the band’s 50th anniversary. Dates eventually stretched in 2022 and UFO announced that a final show would take place on Oct. 29 that year in Athens, Greece. Unfortunately, two months before what was supposed to be...

UFO is arguably one of the most underrated bands in hard rock. But there have been plenty of signs in recent years that they’re finally getting their due. Albums like 1977’s Lights Out helped them build the story. As Patterson Hood of Drive-By Truckers evangelized in the liner notes for the Strangers in the Nightbox set in 2020, it was the British hard rockers who gave him a night to remember, one which remains in his words, virtually unmatched. He had gone to visit his grandmother in Charleston, West Virginia over Thanksgiving Weekend in 1977. Wisely, he spent three dollars to buy a ticket to...

Washington (AFP) - NASA on Thursday officially joined the search for UFOs -- but reflecting the stigma attached to the field, the US space agency kept secret for hours the identity of the person heading a new program tracking mystery flying objects. The official's appointment is the result of a year-long NASA fact-finding report into what it calls "unidentified anomalous phenomena," or UAP. "At NASA, it's in our DNA to explore -- and to ask why things are the way they are," agency chief Bill Nelson said. An independent team of 16 researchers concluded in the report that the search for UAPs "de...

Washington (AFP) - NASA is set to release on Thursday the findings of a long-awaited study on unexplained flying objects in Earth's skies. The US space agency announced last year it was reviewing evidence regarding unidentified anomalous phenomena, or UAPs -- which has replaced the term "UFO" in official parlance. The subject has long fascinated the public but was shunned by mainstream science. An independent team of 16 researchers shared their preliminary observations in May, finding that existing data and eyewitness reports are insufficient to draw firm conclusions, while calling for more sy...

U.S. fighter jets have shot down four high-altitude objects in eight days. According to Air Force General Glen VanHerck, the series of shootdowns was a first for the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) over its 60-plus-year existence. The shootdowns occurred in early February after the U.S. discovered an object that the government claimed was a spy balloon sent from China. China has also accused the U.S. of flying surveillance balloons over its skies. The other objects that have been shot down have yet to be identified but currently show no sign that connects them to China’s spy b...
