The summer of 1984 delivered something for everybody, as an array of timeless tracks filled the airwaves. Glam metal’s invasion was in full swing at the time, helping acts like Ratt, Night Ranger and Twister Sister score their breakthrough hits. Of course, the biggest band on the planet at the time was Van Halen, and the group continued its dominance by releasing one of their most popular singles in the summer of ‘84. Also ruling over pop-culture at the time was Prince. The Purple One was everywhere thanks to his masterpiece album (and accompanying film) Purple Rain. Prince’s impact was even f...

Slash paid a visit to Los Angeles’ famed Amoeba Music on Wednesday to play a stripped-down acoustic set in support of his new blues covers album, Orgy of the Damned. Accompanied by singer/guitarist Tash Neal and singer/keyboardist Teddy Andreadis, Slash performed a nine-song set that drew largely from Orgy of the Damned. Here are the five heaviest Black Sabbath songs… without Ozzy Osbourne! This is not meant to diminish the Prince of Darkness, merely a means to break from the usual fanfare of those first six legendary Sabbath albums. Sure, Ronnie James Dio gets his due (even if Dehumanizer doesn’t reap as much acclaim as it should), but other Sabbath singers are an afterthought in the minds of most. Why the Tony Martin era in particular (The Eternal Idol, Headless Cross, Tyr, Cross Purposes and Forbidden) seems to get written off entirely is one of metal’s greatest mysteries. Do metal fans really think Tony Io...

The Ocean had their performance in Auckland, New Zealand shut down early by …. a vape pen?! The group, who are notorious for their smoke-filled performances, had actually made a compromise to go without their smoggy effects due to venue policies. But smoke still got them in the end as an audience member’s vaping managed to trigger fire alarms causing a visit from local firefighters and leading to an early ending to their performance. It’s a bit ironic that The Ocean’s performance got tripped up by a vaping audience member as most of their performances are quite smoggy with their production val...

The Pretty Reckless‘ Taylor Momsen had an unusual experience while the band was opening for AC/DC in Spain earlier this week. While the band was playing the Death By Rock and Roll song “Witches Burn,” the vocalist apparently noticed members of the audience pointing at something onstage, but she didn’t understand what they were trying to say. Eventually, she turned and looked down and, much to her surprise, noticed a bat stuck to her leg. “There is a fucking flying bat on my leg right now. Can someone help me, please?” she said into the microphone, as seen in fan-filmed footage. “I must really ...

Ronnie Radke gave a young Falling in Reverse superfan her “dream day” earlier this month at the Sonic Temple Festival in Ohio. The youngster, named Lily, has a rare condition called Epidermolysis bullosa, which causes the skin to be fragile and develop blisters or tear very easily, according to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases. Children born with the condition are called “Butterfly children” because of how delicate their skin is. Falling in Reverse are Lily’s favorite band, so Radke gave her the experience of a lifetime a few weeks ago at Columbus’ Soni...

In a new interview with Fishman Music, Slipknot guitarist Mick Thomson named two of his guilty pleasure bands while answering the internet’s most searched questions about him. A lot of the questions are pretty straightforward, to which the axeman offers brief answers to. At first, he’s a bit antagonistic and humorously lies, saying he was born with a mask on and that he’s not left-handed (he totally is). As the video (seen near the bottom of the page) progresses, Thomson opens up and is truthful in his replies. He’s at his most enthusiastic when getting to shout out a pair of his favorite guil...

In a brand new video series, we look back on the bitter feud between Slipknot and Mushroomhead. While the bands have been able to coexist in the metal scene peacefully for a while now, it was a different story in the late ’90s and early 2000s. Mushroomhead formed in Cleveland, Ohio in 1993 and put out their first, eponymous record two years later. Slipknot, on the other hand, were established in Des Moines, Iowa in ’95 and put out their first release Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. the next year. There was a catch though — both bands wore masks, jumpsuits and caught the eye of Roadrunner Records. Mu...
