PETTY WEALTH: 2021 DODGE DURANGO HELLCAT OWNERS FILING LAWSUIT

The Dodge Durango Hellcat has made an unexpected comeback. Perhaps too unexpected. It has also come back to haunt the Dodge brand itself who decreed at one point that the 2021 Durango Hellcat would be a one year item. Now that it has in fact made a return for 2023, and 2021 Durango Hellcat owners are upset. So much so that a lawsuit has been filed by seven of them.

The announcement of the return of the Durango Hellcat officially came during Dodge Speed Week last summer. That same week, Dodge introduced the Hornet and the Charger SRT Daytona Banshee electric concept.

Considering the demand (hence why Dodge saw it right to bring it back in the first place), the Durango Hellcat was welcomed with open arms and applause during the reveal. But immediately following the official debut, a a handful of ’21 Durango Hellcat owners sought legal counsel.

Per reports, the members include: Stacy Phillips (who sought legal counsel almost immediately), Lawrence Willis, Eli Negron III, Christian Papana, Jason Van Genderen, Mark Hollingsworth, and Jeffrey G. Heintz, Sr. all of whom paid a price tag as high as $114,225. The owners have requested the court to grant class-action status for the suit. In addition, the “original seven” (owners filing suit) have requested the lawsuit be applicable to all 2021 Durango Hellcat owners. Further demands include an undisclosed amount of compensatory and punitive damages, halting the production of new Hellcats and covered legal fees.

The 2021 Durango Hellcat provides a whopping 710 horsepower, making it the world’s most powerful three-row SUV, and is capable of running 0-60 in 3.5 seconds. Just over 3,000 of them were made and had a sticker price of $80,000. It was revealed in July of 2020 as a one-year 2021 model, and was made for only six months.
