GM MAY OFFER CHATGPT IN FUTURE CARS, TRUCKS AND SUVS

With an all-electric future headed our way, despite some resistance, auto manufacturers are finding ways to better your experience with owning one. General Motors (GM) in partnership with Microsoft is exploring the applications of ChatGPT in cars. The company already has Utlifi that it could use as a potential foundation. Using ChatGPT in cars would introduce an Artificially Intelligent (AI) voice that can walk you through things you’d normally have to reference the owners manual for.

What Is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT for those that aren’t in the know, is an AI chatbot developed by San Francisco based startup OpenAI. The startup was co-founded by Elon Musk (CEO of Tesla) in 2015 and backed by many big investors including Microsoft. In a nutshell, ChatGPT is a vehicle companion that can carry a conversation and tell you about your car. GM CEO Mary Barra said in an interview with Fox News earlier this month that being able to have access to an assistant with a clear voice will only make the owner-vehicle relationship better over the amount of time you own the car.

When And Where To Expect It

GM Spokesperson Sturat Fowle told the Detroit Free Press that the company has no definite timeline as to when customers can begin using the ChatGPT assistant or on what platform to expect it on going forward. Fowle did share that the company’s engineers are still studying its application though. Fowle added that the launch of the Ultifi platform later this year will usher in all kinds of software possibilities for vehicle owners, specifically stating a new era of “software-defined” vehicles is upon us and will evolve as time goes on.

It’s hard to imagine GM wouldn’t want this AI chatbot accessible in their all new Silverado EV or GMC Hummer EV. Seeing as how Elon Musk was a co-founder, it also stands to reason that we could see some implementation in a Tesla, perhaps even the Cybetruck at some point. ChatGPT is not proprietary to any vehicle manufacturer, it is available to anyone. Right now it is a $20.00 subscription service that allows unlimited uses while holding a subscription.
