2023 CHEVROLET CAMARO SS CONVERTIBLE INDY 500 FESTIVAL CARS DEBUT

Another year has gone by, and one of the best indications that the Month of May is approaching is the arrival of 50 identical 2023 Chevrolet Camaro SS convertibles staged on the main straightaway on April 3 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Though these cars aren’t as eye-catching as last year, they still serve the same purpose. They are celebrating a longtime tradition, where “Festival Event Cars” remind the Indianapolis-area residents of the upcoming Indy 500 since the 1960s.

2023 Chevrolet Camaro SS Indianapolis 500 Cars: Details

The Festival Event Cars are a unique option code based on the 2023 Chevrolet Camaro SS convertible and are powered by a 6.2L LT1 V8, which offers a formidable 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque. The exterior of the car features Sharkskin Metallic exterior paint with unique graphics from Chevrolet’s Performance Design Studio, representing the 107th running of the Indianapolis 500. The vehicles also feature an Ash Gray leather interior, a power-folding convertible top that can be lowered while driving at speeds up to 30 mph, Brembo front and rear performance brakes, and 20-inch aluminum wheels.

The unique fleet of Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertibles will be driven around Central Indiana, once again turning heads and reminding everyone it’s almost May. The cars were presented by J. Douglas Boles, IMS president; Pat Merna, 500 Festival vice president of strategic partnerships; Sarah Fisher, 500 Festival board chair and Mike Quinn, Chevrolet Indianapolis district sales manager.

The 107th Indianapolis 500, presented by Gainbridge, is scheduled for Sunday, May 28, 2023. That’s Memorial Weekend. Though that’s still over a month away, it’s never too soon to buy tickets which are now available on the IMS website. Additionally, people can find more information on all Month of May events and activities on the site, so if you’re in the Indianapolis area, you can enjoy the Spring month with an assortment of events.

It’s bittersweet, as this is likely the last time we’ll see the Chevrolet Camaro tasked as the Indy 500 festival car for a long time.
