The seventh-generation Ford Mustang, codenamed S650, is expected to launch this summer. Pretty much every detail on the new muscle car is public at this point, including specs, horsepower, price, and options. However, customers will have to exercise a degree of patience, as Ford Motor Company works out quality control kinks at the Mustang’s Flat Rock Assembly plant in Michigan ahead of the product launch. This comes at a time when Ford is under the gun for a chain of clumsy vehicle launches the past few years.
2024 Ford Mustang Production Delay: Details
According to Detroit Free Press, Ford cut shifts at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant while in the process of launching the all-new 2024 Mustang. A launch team member revealed that the build-out of the 2024 model was finished in early April, and the final quality review has been focusing on a few specific issues, including:
- Fitment issues with the body panels
- Electrical issues that involve engineering
- V8 engine valve issues
Ford spokeswoman Kelli Felker noted that the company had modified the launch process for the S650 Ford Mustang to focus heavily on quality. This means Ford is slowing down vehicle release to scrutinize every manufacturing detail rather than risk delivering vehicles that could be recalled. This is a good play considering that Ford spends billions of dollars on recalls and warranty repairs yearly, eroding profits. So, while there are some issues that Ford is working to fix to improve the quality of the 2024 Ford Mustang, that’s a good thing. At least better than getting a car that’ll be stuck at a dealer to get issues fixed soon after making the purchase.
Ford CEO Jim Farley has publicly stated that quality improvements are the company’s top priority. And, like the F-150 and Bronco, any issues found on the new Ford Mustang are bound to be widely publicized. Such is the cross to bear when launching the new generation of an iconic product.
