After a seemingly never-ending string of delays for the Tesla Cybertruck, it appears that the late August start to production is on track as a recent sighting by a Twitter user reveals a truck wrapped in camouflage heading through the drive-through of In-And-Out Burger in Palo Alto, California.
Tesla Cybertruck Prototype In Camo Wrap: Is Development Done?
The Camouflaged Cybertruck features a military-inspired wrap, and it prompted some Twitter jokes, including Elon Musk chiming in with the CEO saying it’s “practically invisible.” In contrast, others wondered what Tesla was trying to conceal with the new wrap since the truck had been through several design iterations over the years, and not once had the company wanted to hide it. Though, it’s clear that decision has done wonders for marketing the vehicle. The camo wrap emphasizes the truck’s lines, which is the opposite of what other manufacturers use camo for. Generally, car manufacturers use camouflage to cover up the vehicle’s shape to keep fans from knowing what to expect for as long as possible.
This could imply that Tesla will offer factory wraps, in lieu of paint, for the stainless-steel-bodied Cybertruck. Then again, Tesla has a heterodox way of doing things. Anything, really.
Since design changes have been minimal since the beginning, it’s not surprising that this particular Cybertruck sports everything we already knew about, including the “gigawiper,” which Elon Musk said wouldn’t be on the production model. Aside from that, we can see this particular vehicle has a round-ish steering wheel which further supports that this is a pre-production model.
Finally, it’s clear that the Tesla Cybertruck has completed development as Tesla has a tradition of driving the vehicle through the drive-thru of an In-N-Out after development is complete. That means we’re approaching the start of production of one of the most anticipated automobiles ever, after a good couple of years of waiting. However, expect pricing to be heavily adjusted from original numbers.
