NEXT S650 FORD MUSTANG VARIANT TAKING A PAGE FROM CORVETTE Z06 PLAYBOOK

Ford CEO Jim Farley recently questioned if fans wanted to see a GT3 road car make its way into production. A recent sighting of a heavily camouflaged prototype of the S650 Ford Mustang could be one of the first glimpses of the product. Either that or Ford has something else up its sleeve, perhaps the S650 Shelby GT500 everyone is waiting for. Or, something new entirely. If anything, the center-exit exhaust caught on the widebody prototype is definitely something new for the Mustang. Maybe the sound of the C8 Corvette Z06 had something to do with it?

S650 Ford Mustang Widebody Prototype: Details

The center-exit exhaust at the back sends us and others for a loop as to what this vehicle might be. Autoblog believes that this widebody Ford Mustang is a road-going version of the GT3 racecar thanks to the center-mounted exhaust, but it indeed could be anything at this point. Looking at the car’s front or back gives a much clearer view of the widebody. Meanwhile, the Mustang sports a relatively aggressive-looking spoiler visible undercover on the decklid. Meanwhile, the front bumper features some form of an aero package.

As for the tire size and model, that is challenging to make out due to the distance the photos were taken at. Though, the sidewall of the tires appears to be a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires. That would indicate that this car has the most extreme performance road tires from Michelin, consistent with a road-going Mustang GT3 or GT500 build. Maybe it’s the new GT350 or Mach 1? Again, hard to say.

One thing that could point this car away from the GT500 is that the photographer stated that the engine sounded naturally aspirated without a hint of a supercharger whine. Either way, it doesn’t look like the Dark Horse will remain the most performance-oriented model of the S650 Ford Mustang for long as if this model is out testing, it’ll only be a matter of time before it gets unveiled and enters production with all that we can tell, this will be a different beast rocking V8 power that only Ford will supply in the years to come.
