Back in March, Dodge (in conjunction with Roadkill) hosted the Last Call Festival at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where hundreds of Mopar Muscle enthusiasts attended to witness drag races, experience thrill rides, compete in racing simulators, check out unique displays, and even see an impromptu air show courtesy of Nellis Air Force Base just across the street. But, the event’s main highlight was the debut of the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170, which arrived via Kaman K-MAX helicopter and unsurprisingly became fully reserved soon after. But, with the recent announcement of the end of production for the Dodge Charger and Challenger by December 31, it’s clear there’s a short timeline for the brand to build them. If everything goes according to plan, the Stellantis Brampton, Ontario assembly plant could produce up to 3,300 units of the 1,025 horsepower super muscle car. But that’s not a guarantee. To get a better idea of what the production status for the Demon 170 is, we caught up with Dodge (and Ram) CEO Tim Kuniskis during last weekend’s blockbuster Roadkill Nights event in Pontiac, Michigan.

“I don’t know. I don’t know. I was very, very, very careful… when we launched the Demon that I said that we want to build 3,300,” Kuniskis told MC&T. “Everyone keeps saying we’re building 3,300, but I’m like, ‘guys, I never told you we’d build 3,300.’ I said, ‘up to,’ and I don’t know if we’ll get there. If everything goes smooth, yeah, we’ll hit it.”
It’s safe to assume that the goal of 3,300 might not be reached by the end of production by December 31, 2023. That’s unfortunate for the customers who have put their names down on the reservation list for the 1,025 horsepower and 945 lb-0ft of torque on the E85 fuel muscle car. It’s unclear which orders will take priority, but we’re sure the Dodge Challenger Demon 170 sold for $700,000 is a high priority since the proceeds went towards a charitable cause. As for the loyal customers that got custom Jailbreak color options for the epic car, they, too, may be made a priority, but we’ll see what Dodge does. Hopefully, the supply of vehicle components remains strong to fulfill the goal. But the main takeaway is not to get your hopes up, as there’s no guarantee the brand will be able to meet all of the 3,300 units they hope to.
