THEY'RE OUT THERE: DODGE CHALLENGER SRT DEMON 170 SPOTTED AT A DRAG STRIP

When the 1,025 hp Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 was released, it came with the understanding that it would have an extremely limited production run. After all, Stellantis is hitting the lights at the Brampton, Ontario plant after December 31st. And while 3,000 units is the ambition, it’s unclear how many Demon 170s will actually be built. However, we can at least confirm deliveries, as an entirely stock 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 has been caught on video doing an impressive 9.39-second quarter-mile pass. The video, posted to YouTube by Stephen Rippa of Ripatuned (who also happens to be the owner and driver of this remarkable muscle car, showcases the quarter-mile pass accomplished with just 67 miles on its odometer.

In fact, this Demon 170 is so fresh, that its recorded quarter-mile pass wasn’t done with any assistance from the likes of the car’s TransBrake 2.0 launch control system, which is locked until the car reaches 500 miles. This system should allow users to fiddle with the car’s torque and power delivery to optimize grip on a track and achieve an even faster time down the pass.

Rippa stated that he lost traction during the run, though the monstrous 1,025 horsepower from the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 but thinks the car is push a higher output than advertised. We would need a dyno to test that theory, however. That said, after the super muscle car surpasses the first 500 mile break in period, we’re sure there that Rippa can come much closer to the quarter mile time that Dodge says is possible in the Demon 170: 8.91 seconds.

The main takeaway here is that the Dodge Challenger Demon 170 is finally appearing at drag strips, which means we’re about to see some impressive races in the future. If you are interested in seeing the car on the dyno, Ripatuned has stated that it will be taking the car to put it on the dyno for a baseline as he prepares to create a stage 1 tune for the car, not that it needs any modifications.
