The Tesla Cybertruck was designed to be a “Durable and rugged” truck capable of going just about everywhere, even taking on the rugged terrain of Mars (modifications required). Thanks to the truck’s adaptive air suspension that offers 12″ of travel and 17″ of clearance, customers can traverse paths less traveled, right? Apparently not; it wasn’t long ago when one Cybertruck got stuck on the side of a mountain after an owner went Christmas Tree hunting, and now, it doesn’t even seem the Tesla Cybertruck can stack up against a Subaru Crosstrek.
So, what happened?
Tesla Cybertruck vs. Subaru Crosstrek Off-Road: Details
A video recently uploaded to YouTube from VoyageATX showcased the channel owner off-roading his Tesla Cybertruck. VoyageATX made his way to an off-road park called Hidden Falls Adventure Park in Marble Falls, Texas, along with two of his friends, one in a Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness and the other in a current-gen Toyota 4Runner. You would think that the Crosstrek, despite being a crossover, would be the one struggling with this adventure, but you’d be wrong.
After encountering a difficult obstacle, VoyageATX attempted to enable the front or rear differential locking system. However, when he tried to engage it, the system gave him an error message stating, “Locking differential controls coming soon.” Yes, that makes total sense. Adding to this, the truck would disengage off-road mode each time he got out of the truck, which added a whole extra step every time he got back in after making sure he was clearing an obstacle.
When taking an incline, the Cybertruck spun its wheels, struggling to gain traction before rolling back. Even reaching a decent speed to take on the obstacle couldn’t propel the truck up the terrain, nor did airing down the tires. Meanwhile, the Crosstrek, which also does not have a locking differential, handled all of the challenges thrown at it like a champ, which shows that you don’t have to spend enormous amounts of money (all too common these days) to have fun on a trail.
