US Assistant Secretary James O’Brien To Strengthen Bilateral Ties With Bosnia And Herzegovina

The United States Department of State announced today that Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs James O’Brien is scheduled to embark on a pivotal diplomatic mission to Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, from February 1-3, 2024.

During his visit, Assistant Secretary O’Brien aims to reinforce the enduring alliance between the United States and Bosnia and Herzegovina, underscoring unwavering support for the nation’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and vibrant multiethnic fabric, according to a statement from the State Department spokesperson.

O’Brien’s will underscore the United States’ “support for the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and multiethnic character.,” the spokesperson remarked.

While in Sarajevo Secretary Blinken’s diplomat will engage in high-level discussions with key government officials to emphasize the indispensable role of robust democratic institutions in fostering prosperity and stability. The State Department emphasized the crucial importance of functional, efficient, and accountable democratic governance at all levels to ensure a brighter future for all citizens across the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republika Srpska.

Additionally, O’Brien is scheduled to hold talks with High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina Christian Schmidt, further signaling the United States’ steadfast commitment to fostering peace and prosperity in the region.

He is slated to deliver a keynote address at the University of Sarajevo, where he will articulate key US priorities in the region, amplifying the message of solidarity and partnership between the United States and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
