Congressman Clyburn Encourages Voter Support For Biden In Upcoming Election, Reflects On Black History Month

Congressman Clyburn released a statement today from the Biden campaign celebrating the start of Black History Month.

“Black History Month offers us an opportunity to celebrate the rich history and contributions of the Black Americans who continue to play significant roles in our nation’s pursuit of ‘a more perfect union,’” he said. Clyburn specifically noted Lewis Latimer, an American inventor who “made Thomas Edison’s light bulb work” and credited “Black America’s mobilization” for helping to win Joe Biden and Kamala Harris the White House in 2020.

Noting the increased representation of Black Americans in positions of power, he highlighted, “the first Black woman on the Supreme Court, a record-breaking number of Black women to the federal appellate court, and appointing the most diverse Cabinet in American history, including the first African American to serve as Secretary of Defense.”

Addressing the successes of the Biden-Harris administration, Clyburn said that they have achieved in bringing Black unemployment to a 50-year low and investing $7 billion in Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Clyburn is urging people to vote for Joe Biden in the upcoming election over Donald Trump.

“The end of Reconstruction and the beginning of Jim Crow were decided by just one vote,” he said. Democrats are making a promise that, unlike Trump, Joe Biden “will never stop fighting to make life better for the American people.’
