McDonald’s has launched its latest marketing stunt, in which a notorious criminal known as the Hamburglar promotes the fast food chain’s new burger offerings in the most fantastic getaway car: a Plymouth Barracuda. But this isn’t just any Barracuda; this is the Burgercuda, complete with a burger warmer located in the center console.

“McDonald’s built a legacy on serving delicious burgers, but anytime we have an opportunity to make the best even better, we take it,” said Tariq Hassan, Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer at McDonald’s. “It’s no surprise these changes caught the attention of our biggest burger fan – the Hamburglar. We’re excited for fans to join in on the fun as they look for him on his burger-stealing spree. You never know where he’ll pop up next.”
The Burgercuda was designed by San Diego-based artist Sean Smith, who has worked on a few popular vehicles, including the widebody Dodge Charger built by Speedkore for Fast and Furious 9 along with Kevin Hart’s supercharged Plymouth Road Runner, built by Salvaggio Design. As for the Hamburglar’s Barracuda, Smith collaborated with Fusion Motor Company and Sew Cal Rods & Upholstery to create the black and white Plymouth and its classic McDonald’s-style interior.
As for what gives this one-of-a-kind Barracuda power, that is a Mopar 440 cubic-inch Big Block V8 engine. Though it’s no 426 Hemi, it’s just about as potent as the Hemi, with an advertised 375 horsepower. However, it’s unclear if that’s what this version of the engine is making as the press release doesn’t explicitly offer details on the exact engine configuration and its power output. That said, the engine is mated to a Chrysler four-speed. All of this calls back to the legend of the Barracuda while sticking to the car’s roots with the spectacular engine that was once offered with it.
This car is adorned with Hamburglar easter eggs, such as the Burgercuda name as a fender badge created in the classic Barracuda script, along with the “robble robble” catchphrase on the shaker hood bubble. On the quarter-panels, the McDonald’s Burgurcuda features QR codes, which gives spotters a chance to enter a sweepstakes for free burgers or McDonald’s swag. Free burgers aren’t a drawback, but the opportunity to get this car would be pretty cool.
