The new Corvette Z06 GT3.R debuted at the Rolex 24 at Daytona with two teams – Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports and AWA. And while it just wasn’t their race (the same can be said for the new S650 Ford Mustang GT3, unfortunately), it is just the beginning, as GM officials appear to be rather enthusiastic about the future of the racing program.

According to SportsCar365, two more programs for the Corvette Z06 GT3.R are in the works: TF Sports in the FIA World Endurance Championship LMGT3 division and DXDT Racing in Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS. But that’s just the first season as preparations for the expansion of the Z06 program in 2025 actually started last year as Program Manager Christie Bagne stated that a delegation of Corvette reps undertook a fact-finding mission. The reps journeyed to several major endurance races, including the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa and the Nürburgring 24, where two current Corvette factory drivers (Earl Bamber and Nicky Catsburg) were winners.
On top of that, more trips will be made this year as the Corvette Z06 GT3.R program prepares for an even bigger 2025 season. Though GM isn’t quite ready to announce exactly where Corvette teams will be competing, there’s still time for them to figure that out. The main factor is determining where they can “provide the best possible support in terms of parts and engineering to be successful with those teams,” Bagne said.
The Corvette Z06 GT3.R expansion aims to keep the numbers low to ensure support for those teams is at its highest. So far, GM has accomplished this goal, but time will tell if they remain successful as they continue to expand. It seems doable, especially as they’re evaluating where to place the legendary race car before enrolling it in the season. This will only lead to further greatness for Corvette Racing in 2025.
