Speaker Johnson: Alejandro Mayorkas Deserves To Be Impeached

Following the House of Representatives’ approval of articles of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Speaker Johnson spoke about the nature of the House Homeland Security Committee’s investigation.

“For nearly a year,” Speaker Johnson asserted, “the House Homeland Security Committee has taken a careful and methodical approach to this investigation, and the results are clear.” According to Johnson, Mayorkas has consistently flouted federal immigration laws since assuming office, exacerbating what he termed “the worst border catastrophe in American history.”

Johnson on behalf of the House Republicans, accused Mayorkas of eroding public trust through alleged false statements to Congress, impeding lawful oversight of the Department of Homeland Security, and violating his oath of office

“Alejandro Mayorkas deserves to be impeached,” Speaker Johnson asserted, citing a “constitutional obligation” for Congress to act. Johnson underscored the gravity of impeachment, likening it to a declaration of war, and stressed that the House had approached the matter with appropriate solemnity.

Concluding the statement, Speaker Johnson declared, “Since this Secretary refuses to do the job that the Senate confirmed him to do, the House must act.”
