Alan Shearer has reacted to the news that Newcastle United are now demanding £20m for Dan Ashworth as he looks set to join Man United.
Newcastle could place their Sporting Director on a 20-month gardening leave period or demand around £20m from their Premier League rivals to cut that short.
Shearer reacted to the news on social media with a three-word message as Ashworth has already made it clear that he wants to leave to join the Red Devils.

Following the news that broke last night regarding Ashworth, this whole situation is still far from over as the two clubs will likely refuse to budge on how highly they value him.
Man United will be adamant that they are not paying the £20m fee that Newcastle are asking for while Newcastle will feel like they have no reason to lower the price any time soon.
These negotiations could therefore go on for quite a while, and while they do Newcastle should be looking for a suitable replacement for the 52-year-old who has left them in a bit of tricky situation.
This kind of a fee for a director is quite remarkable, though Shearer was keen to poke fun at the whole situation by claiming that Newcastle weren’t quite demanding enough from Man United for Ashworth.

When Newcastle first hired Ashworth to be their director two years ago the club were always clear on the fact that they were very well protected should something like this happen.
From the moment the new ownership took over the club they’ve got almost everything spot on and quite obviously have been very careful and cautious in every decision they’ve made.
While Shearer was poking fun at the fee, it’s actually really smart from Newcastle who have put themselves in such a strong position and now have no reason to lower Ashworth’s fee.
It will be very interesting to see how this whole saga develops in the next few weeks and who budges first when it comes to compromising on the price.
