Sudbury’s Mackman Group awarded special B Corp accreditation for commitment to social and environmental responsibility

A marketing agency has broken new ground, becoming the first Sudbury firm to achieve a special status, recognising social and environmental responsibility in business.

The Mackman Group, based in Meadow Lane, announced its successful certification as a B Corporation, following a year-long accreditation process with the not-for-profit organisation B Lab.

The B Corp designation aims to highlight businesses that share the ethos of ‘people, planet, profit’, by demonstrating that their profitability does not come at the expense of societal and environmental wellbeing.

In order to be accredited, businesses much earn a benchmark score of 80, based on factors such as energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency.

Following an extensive review over the course of 2023, The Mackman Group obtained a score of 91.7.

Paul Mackman, the agency’s managing director and founder, said: “As we approached our 20th year in business, instead of looking back over past achievements, we wanted to focus our vision towards the future.

“Our ethos ‘Together We Grow’ has guided us to assist people, brands and the community, and achieving B Corp status is good evidence of things we were already doing.

“We are proud to be recognised for our efforts and we hope to inspire others to join along on such an important journey, proving that business can be a force for good.”

Chris Turner, executive director of B Lab UK, added: “We are delighted to welcome The Mackman Group to the B Corp community.

“This is a movement of companies which are committed to changing how business operates and believe business really can be a force for good.

“We know that The Mackman Group is going to be a fantastic addition to the community and will continue driving the conversation forward.”
