Woman kidnapped at knifepoint outside N.J. Aldi, cops say

A man was arrested after he kidnapped a woman at knifepoint from the parking lot of an Aldi store in Toms River on Sunday, police said.

Luis Morenogutierrez is charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon, Toms River police said Monday.

Police responded to the Aldi on Route 70 at 6:55 p.m. Sunday on a report of a woman who had been kidnapped at knifepoint by a male acquaintance during an argument. She was assaulted and left unconscious at a different location, police said. She was treated at a local hospital.

Morenogutierrez was arrested by Englewood police and transported to Toms River, police said. As of Monday, he remains held in the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.

Police did not release any additional detailsnwhen contacted by NJ Advance Media.
