Middle East Crisis And China Relations Top Agenda For Biden-Meloni Summit

President Giorgia Meloni of Italy is set to visit President Biden at the White House on March 1, as confirmed by the White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. The meeting aims to underscore the strong relationship between the two nations.

Jean-Pierre outlined an extensive agenda covering various global issues to be discussed between President Biden and Prime Minister Meloni. This includes recent developments such as Biden’s announcement of over 500 new sanctions against Russia following its invasion of Ukraine and the tragic death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny. Both leaders will reaffirm their commitment to supporting Ukraine during this challenging time.

Additionally, discussions will encompass strategies to prevent escalation in the Middle East, with a focus on providing essential humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza. The conversation will extend to developments in North Africa and coordination efforts concerning the People’s Republic of China.

Ahead of the NATO Summit scheduled for July 2024 in Washington, President Biden and Prime Minister Meloni plan to coordinate their positions. Furthermore, they will address Italy’s upcoming presidency of the G7 group, marking its seventh tenure in this role.
