'More and more close': Reporter claims one manager is now 'clear' about replacing Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool

Xabi Alonso is reportedly moving closer and closer to Liverpool.

Liverpool need to somehow replace Jurgen Klopp this summer, which sounds like a daunting task.

Klopp won the Carabao Cup final with a host of youngsters on the pitch due to major injury problems.

Then you saw the connection between Klopp and Liverpool fans as they belted out a rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone together.

How does anybody replace this? Klopp is more than just a manager to these Liverpool supporters and succeeding him leaves us fearing a David Moyes at Manchester United situation.

Liverpool have to pick somebody though and it looks like Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso is the top target…

Xabi Alonso to Liverpool: the latest

An impressive young manager going for a league title with an unbeaten record this season would always attract Liverpool’s interest.

Yet when you factor in that Alonso already has an emotional connection to Liverpool from his playing days, you begin to think that he is the perfect candidate.

Yes, his style of play maybe isn’t exactly like Klopp’s but the rapport with Liverpool supporters would certainly help him in terms of replacing Klopp.

Reports from English sources over the weekend indicated that Alonso was having doubts about the move to Anfield.

It’s stated that Alonso has ‘has made clear his mind’ that Liverpool the move for him after talks between his representatives and the Reds.

Tavolieri adds that, even if Bayern Munich push for Alonso to replace Thomas Tuchel, it now looks increasingly unlikely that he will still in the Bundesliga next season.

This is encouraging stuff for Liverpool fans, who may have wondered who would have been next up if Alonso had said no.

Ruben Amorim and Julian Nagelsmann have been touted but none of them are already loved at Anfield like Alonso.

Alonso may now become the first non-Bayern manager to win the Bundesliga since Klopp in 2012 – and that just adds to the idea that he should be next Reds boss this summer.
