"He’s my favourite player"... Kobbie Mainoo names his football idol growing up - he wasn't at Man Utd

Kobbie Mainoo has been a revelation for Manchester United this season.

The 18-year-old has been superb since Erik ten Hag introduced him into the first-team frame, cementing himself as one of the Red Devils most integral players despite his young age.

The amazing thing is? He’s only going to get better. Mainoo has the world at his feet at Old Trafford at the moment, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for him and Manchester United.

He possesses raw undeniable talent – much like that of his footballing idol growing up.

Kobbie Mainoo idolises Ronaldinho

In a quickfire interview with club media – Mainoo named his footballing idol growing up, who was none other than Barcelona and Brazil mega-star, Ronaldinho.

“Growing up it was Ronaldinho. He’s my favourite player,” Mainoo told United’s media team.

Ronaldinho, who infamously could’ve potentially joined Manchester United, was Mainoo’s idol growing up it seems – which does reflect in parts of his game.

The legendary Brazilian was one of the best close-touch dribblers on the planet during his playing days – which is something that Mainoo definitely has shades of.

Mainoo has remarkably quick feet for a defensive midfielder, which he has used expertly to get him into positive positions, and out of sticky situations so far in his short spell around the first-team frame.

Kobbie Mainoo never got to see Ronaldinho at Old Trafford.. but could he?

There was always the story circulating about how Ronaldinho very nearly joined Manchester United. However, David Gill has played this down in a recent interview.

But how good would he have been around Carrington? The Brazilian was one of the most entertaining players ever – and would have absolutely lit up the Premier League.

But, it was never to be. This is a grand shame, but in all honesty – it is uncertain as to whether he would have dazzled as brightly in the English game as opposed to in La Liga. We shall never know!
