‘Proof is in the pudding’: £45m Arsenal player will leave this summer if Jorginho signs new contract - journalist

Thomas Partey is expected to leave Arsenal if Jorginho extends his stay at the Emirates Stadium.

That’s according to journalist Kaya Kaynak, who has shared the latest on Thomas Partey’s future at Arsenal.

Despite returning from injury last week, Partey’s days in north London appear to be numbered.

The Ghanaian has spent the majority of the campaign on the sidelines as he’s managed just five appearances in all competitions.

Partey was previously a key player under Mikel Arteta and his absence was typically a huge blow to Arsenal in the past.

But after the arrival of Declan Rice over the summer, the Gunners now have an arguably better option at the base of midfield.

And with Jorginho putting in some impressive displays of late, a contract extension could be on the cards, which would ultimately lead to Partey’s departure.

Partey will leave if Jorginho signs new Arsenal deal

Speaking on The Arsenal Beat, Football.London’s Kaynak explained why Arsenal have ‘moved on’ from Partey.

“I think the proof is in the pudding particularly with Partey that in the summer Arsenal were willing to sell him and they probably will be again this summer,” the journalist said.

“Arsenal have essentially moved on from Thomas Partey, he was such an important player but they’ve moved on.

“They brought in Declan Rice, they brought in Jorginho, they’ll make a decision on whether to extend Jorginho’s contract but I imagine if they do extend Jorginho’s contract, that’s kind of it for Thomas Partey’s Arsenal career because they do want to sign another midfielder this summer.”

There’s no doubting Partey’s talent and when fit, he’s among the best holding midfielders in the Premier League. But he’s struggled with persistent injuries since joining the Gunners for £45 million back in October 2020.

You can’t help but feel that the likes of Rice and Jorginho represent more reliable options for Arteta, partly due to their availability.

With Arsenal also expected to reinforce their midfield this summer, it feels like the right time for Partey to move on.
