Newcastle United continue to be linked with moves for a new manager.
While Eddie Howe is believed to retain the confidence of the PIF ownership at Newcastle, there is little doubt this season has been much more difficult than last.
There are, of course, mitigating factors. Howe is thought to be pointing towards the injury crisis and recruitment issues last summer behind the scenes as reasons for the malaise, although is hardly ever going to make public excuses.
Still, it hasn’t stopped links with a move for a new boss. Jose Mourinho was touted as a target earlier this season while a new name has recently emerged.
Earlier this week, it was claimed by German outlet BILD that the club retained an interest in Julian Nagelsmann.
The 36-year-old is currently in charge of the German national team ahead of Euro 2024 on home soil, although only on a short-term contract.
Interestingly, the former Bayern Munich boss has previously worked with one of Newcastle’s leading players.
Joelinton played under Nagelsmann at Hoffenheim and has previously spoken in glowing terms about the manager.

Quoted by talkSPORT, Joelinton spoke fondly of his time working with Nagelsmann in Germany.
“Julian Nagelsmann is a great coach, great person, great professional. He helped me a lot tactically,” he said.
“He definitely helped me become a better player. What I learnt at Hoffenheim, from living in Germany, was hard work and to focus on what you want and honesty.”

According to Transfermarkt data, the Brazilian enjoyed a productive time of things while under Nagelsmann’s stewardship.
35 appearances for Hoffenheim yielded a very impressive 11 goals and 9 assists, playing in all manner of positions from right wing to centre-forward.
While Joelinton has since established himself as a fantastic central midfielder, it’s clear the two have an understanding.
Amid doubts about his future on Tyneside, perhaps Nagelsmann could help convince him to stay were he to replace Howe.
