Most will be embracing of more true tales receiving the cinematic treatment, but let’s face it… there really is no beating a sports movie that shines light on an uplifting true story. The latest lined up looks fantastic, and we predict Netflix is going to kick the upcoming movie The Beautiful Game straight into the back of the net.

The Beautiful Game is a sports drama movie that’s headed to Netflix.
Produced by actor Colin Farrell (The Batman), the British production stars Academy Award-nominated Bill Nighy (Love Actually) as Mal, the manager of England’s homeless football team, which helps nurture unhoused people’s passion for soccer (football in the UK).
A Homeless World Cup is organized, in which teams from around the globe made up of homeless players can compete for title and glory.

Mal accompanies his team to Rome in the hopes of making the players champions. He’s assigned a last-minute player, Vinny (Micheal Ward), a striker encouraged to embrace his talents in the face of a troubled past.
It’s an inspirational tale of life offering another shot at the goal, and it’s made all the better because it’s based on a true story. The Homeless World Cup (HWC) is a real event and was established in 2001, with almost 70 countries represented in the tournament.
Over 1.2 million have participated, and if it doesn’t get any more heartwarming, some of the characters in the movie are actually played by real people who have been involved in the HWC. The movie was made with the support of the HWC Foundation organization, and it looks to be the feel-good gem of the year.
The Beautiful Game Netflix release date
The Beautiful Game release date is set for Friday, March 29th 2024, when it will premiere exclusively on Netflix.
“How do I only now find out about Homeless World Cup from Netflix if I have watched soccer all my life?!” one viewer commented on the trailer. “What a great tournament!” It’s likely to send audiences on a rabbit hole of research into the HWC’s rich history of creating a sense of unity and fun for homeless people around the world.
If you’re impatient to see this uplifting story, you’re in luck. There’s actually a 2023 South Korean movie called Dream that’s also about a homeless team preparing to compete in the Homeless World Cup. And yes, it’s even on Netflix!
