LUTZ Fla. - Hillsborough County Fire Rescue fought a residential structure fire on Blount Road in Lutz early Monday morning.

"Our dispatch center began receiving 911 calls at 3:16 A.M. from first-party callers reporting smoke and flames coming from their house and that animals were trapped inside. Our first arriving engine was met with heavy fire in the garage, moving toward the house," said HCFR.

Firefighters battled the blaze from inside the residence, stopping its progression before it overtook the remainder of the house.

Crews overcame a lack of fire hydrants on the street by utilizing water tanker operations.

It took crews 30 minutes to control the blaze. Searches were conducted, and two cats were rescued. The house had no occupants, and a few other animals were not accounted for.

The American Red Cross has been called to assist the family who has been displaced. There were no injuries to first responders, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
