'Late call': Daniel Farke says 'relentless' Leeds star is facing a race against time to be fit for Stoke

Junior Firpo has started 10 consecutive league matches in a row for Leeds United but that run of games could now come to an end – with Daniel Farke giving an injury update on Monday afternoon.

After the turn of the year, many fringe players came into the Leeds side after playing a watching brief during the first half of the campaign. The likes of Ilia Gruev, Patrick Bamford, Willy Gnonto and more.

One of those is also Firpo, who could not be picked until the 1-0 away win over Leicester due to injury. He was forced to watch Sam Byram impress in his position. But he has won his spot back in the team.

Indeed, Firpo has started our last 10 Championship matches and three of our four FA Cup games – including the loss to Chelsea and the extra-time win over Plymouth, lasting the entire 120 minutes.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday night’s clash against Stoke City, Farke told the club’s YouTube that despite his run of games and ability to remain injury free – he is a doubt to play, due to an injury to his calf.

“There are some question marks regarding Junior Firpo, he had some calf problems after the last game. We will assess him, we won’t risk a bigger injury. A late call,” Farke said, when discussing team news.

Having Firpo fit is key but ultimately, his absence is easily covered too. Michael Bridges has said that he knows Farke is a big fan of the “relentless” Firpo, but Byram is more than capable of covering the lefty.

Hopefully, if Firpo is unavailable, Byram can pick up where he left off in the earlier months of the season before losing his place in the starting XI to Firpo of late. Leeds have got to get back to winning ways.
