Report: 32-podium driver now set to receive first aero upgrade package at Saudi Arabian GP

Visa Cash App RB will introduce their first upgrade of the season for Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, according to Formu1a.uno.

Ricciardo and Tsunoda will hope to log their first points of the season in Jeddah after a disappointing and controversial race in Bahrain.

And the Italian outlet reports that they will be aided by some improved aerodynamic parts on the 3.8-mile circuit.

Tensions flared at RB at the end of Saturday’s race when the team ordered Tsunoda to let Ricciardo past.

Ricciardo was on faster tyres and RB believed he had a better chance of passing the Haas of Kevin Magnussen for 12th place.

Tsunoda questioned the decision over the radio and sarcastically thanked his team after eventually ceding the position.

Ricciardo was unable to clear Magnussen, and the two drivers nearly collided on the cooldown lap following the chequered flag.

Daniel Ricciardo will reap benefits of first RB upgrade in Jeddah

It’s now been reported that RB will roll out an updated version of the VCARB-01 this weekend.

While the changes won’t jump out to the naked eye, it will be the next step in the aerodynamic evolution that started midway through last season.

Ricciardo, who has finished on the podium 32 times in his career and will want to at least fight for points, should be able to make a ‘small leap forward’ after the changes.

RB dealt reality check after early excitement

The RB car had looked strong in pre-season testing, with Tsunoda setting the seventh-fastest time overall and the second-fastest of any driver outside the top three teams.

That prompted suggestions that Ricciardo could add to his podium tally in his first full season since his return to the team last summer.

However, the Faenza outfit failed to deliver on their potential in Sakhir, with both drivers missing out on Q3 on Friday and failing to trouble the top 10 on race day.

The hope will be that this upgrade can put the rebranded team in position to capitalise on any trouble further ahead, and get some points on the board.
