Secret ingredient found in two of Starbucks new spring menu items is met with mixed reviews

Starbucks released two new lavender drinks yesterday as a part of their spring 2024 menu although fans are divided over an ingredient found in both beverages.

The Iced Lavender Cream Oatmilk Matcha and Iced Lavender Oatmilk Latte are available across the United States from March 7, for a limited period until the supplies last.

Starbucks’ spring 2024 drinks are made with lavender powder

The lavender drinks are made using Starbucks‘ propriety lavender powder, mixed with other ingredients for a stronger flavor.

Starbucks’ press release notes that the development team found the lavender powder to be the “best expression of the subtle sweetness” of the flavor – a reminder of “lavender ice cream because of the light and soft vanilla flavor.”

Even though the powder is used to enhance the spring beverages, it was served with other Starbucks drinks before the spring drop.

The powder consists of sugar, salt, natural lavender flavor, and color from fruit and vegetable juice concentrate.

The Iced Lavender Cream Oatmilk Matcha consists of matcha served with oat milk over ice, topped with “unexpected, sweet, and subtle floral notes” of lavender cream cold foam.

The second drink from the new release – Iced Lavender Oatmilk Latte – is made with Blonde Espresso Roast, creamy oat milk, ice, and the sweet and “subtly floral notes of lavender.” You can also order this hot.

Fans are split on the main ingredient

Many Starbucks fans love the taste of lavender in their beverage, but some have suggested that the coffee brand should replace the powder with syrup of the same flavor.

Some think the powder is “too strong” for their liking, and others feel the powder doesn’t mix thoroughly with the drink, thus offering a strange taste.

When one commented: “10/10 LOVE the lavender powder they use”, another added: “This lavender powder at Starbucks has me in a chokehold.”

“Wait the Starbucks lavender is in powder form? I don’t like that flavor to begin with but powder is extra yuck,” said one.

Another noted: “I like the taste of the new lavender latte at Starbucks, but I can’t get over the texture of the powder.”

“Just sampled Starbucks lavender powder 9/10,” opined one fan.
