2 seriously hurt in bizarre crash involving dirt bike, SUV in N.J. town

Two people were severely injured Wednesday when a dirt bike clipped an SUV and then both the rider of the dirt bike and the driver of the SUV were hit by a third vehicle on a wet and rainy night in Monroe in Gloucster County, police said.

The initial crash occurred at 6:22 p.m. when a 19-year-old riding an unregistered dirt bike hit the rear of an SUV backing out of a residence onto Coles Mill Road, police said.

The dirt bike did not have a headlight, police said. The rider, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown onto Coles Mill Road, police said.

As the 25-year-old driver of the SUV got out and went to assist the injured dirt bike rider, both men were hit by a passing vehicle and seriously injured, police said. Both were taken to Cooper University Hospital.

The Monroe Township Police Department did have an update on their conditions Friday morning.
