N.J. teen killed when he walks into live power line after car wreck, cops say

A 17-year-old driver who survived crashing into a utility pole Sunday was electrocuted and killed when he walked into a downed power line in Cumberland County, according to police.

New Jersey State Police troopers responded to East Point Road in Maurice River shortly after 6:15 p.m. to investigate the incident. The Millville teen was driving north on East Point Road when he lost control of the vehicle, police said.

The vehicle struck a utility pole and overturned, police said. The pole and electrical wires fell as a result of the impact.

The driver and a passenger exited the vehicle with minor injuries, according to police.

As the 17-year-old walked away from the crash, he encountered a downed live wire and was electrocuted, police said.

He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died of his injuries.

The incident remains under investigation. Police said they did not release the teen’s name due to his age.
