Ange Postecoglou says he’s been very impressed by 28-year-old striker Tottenham once tried to sign

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has admitted he’s been impressed by Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.

It is a huge game on Sunday for both sides when Spurs travel to Villa Park with that fourth spot in the Premier League up for grabs.

But Ange Postecoglou’s side will have to keep one of the Premier League’s in-form striker quiet if they are to take all three points home.

How many goals Ollie Watkins has scored

It has been a staggering season in front of goal for the Villa striker who is well in the running for the Golden Boot.

Over his 27 Premier League games, the 28-year-old has returned a seriously impressive 16 goals and 10 assists.

One of those goals even came against Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in November.

And he goes into Sunday’s game on the back of scoring five in his last three league games.

Tottenham tried to sign Ollie Watkins

In the past, Spurs have been linked with a move for Ollie Watkins during his time at Brentford with a valuation of £25m put on him.

The England striker would have arrived at Hotspur Way and been able to learn behind the club legend Harry Kane.

However, he made the move to Aston Villa instead in a deal worth a reported £28m with the possibility of it rising to £33m

Looking back on it, Watkins could have been an unbelievable signing for Spurs at the mere price for £28m.

But you do have to question whether he would have been able to develop into the player he is today playing second fiddle to Kane.

Although Watkins got on the scoresheet last time out, Spurs were without their starting centre-backs and had Ben Davies and Emerson Royal playing.

Regardless, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero will have a huge challenge on their hands on Sunday if they want to keep Watkins quiet.
