Teen arrested in N.J. home invasion robbery

An 18-year-old broke into a home in Bernardsville last week, robbed the resident at knifepoint and then forced him to withdraw money from a nearby ATM, authorities allege.

Maicol Fernandez was arrested hours after entering the home late at night on March 4 and charged with robbery and burglary, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office said Monday.

Officials said the resident was injured after trying to fight off Fernandez but didn’t say what was was taken from the home or how much he withdrew from the ATM.

The victim notified police of the robbery around 12:20 a.m. on Tuesday. Fernandez, of Bernardsville, was arrested later that day.

Fernandez is being held in the Somerset County jail. Attorney information wasn’t immediately available.

Anyone with information is asked to call the prosecutor’s office at 908-231-7100 or Bernardsville police at 908-766-0037.
