Sullivan reportedly must pay big fee to bring elite 45-yo manager to West Ham to replace Moyes

An update has just emerged regarding the future of West Ham United managerial target Arne Slot.

Arne Slot is said to be on the West Ham United owners’ list of potential replacements for David Moyes, and the 45-year-old’s career win rate of 60.4% is said to be attracting the board.

Moyes is under real pressure right now, in spite of the recent wins against Brentford and Everton. The defeat to Freiburg last week followed by the awful showing against Burnley means that the Scot desperately needs to go on a winning run now.

If this season peters out to nothing – let’s say a ninth or tenth placed finish in the Premier League table and an exit from the Europa League either at the last-16 or quarter-final stage – then I’d be shocked if Moyes hangs on to his job.

If the 60-year-old is moved on, Slot would be my number one choice to replace him. The brand of football that the Dutchman deploys is incredibly exciting, and he gets results as well…

Arne Slot to West Ham update

According to Robert Maaskant, who was speaking to MSN, any club that wishes to prise Slot away from Feyenoord would need to pay a big fee.

There is no release clause inserted into the 45-year-old’s current deal with the Eredivisie outfit.

That’s a shame, because I just cannot see David Sullivan paying a big fee for a manager, I just can’t. He should do though, because the Dutchman would be perfect for us.

Dutch website Football Oranje recently described Slot as an ‘elite’ coach in the making, and they’re not wrong.

Feyenoord are on another planet to the Hammers when it comes to intensity, ability to press their opponents high up the pitch and the patterns of play that they execute.

Slot took over at Feyenoord in the summer of 2021 and has taken the Dutch giants to another level in two-and-a-half years.

He guided them to a third place finish in his first season at De Kuip. The Dutchman also took his side to the Europa Conference League final in the 2021/22 season, only to lose to Roma in the final, but things have got even better since then.

Feyenoord won the league last season out in Holland and this season, his side are second in the Eredivisie table, although they’re 10 points adrift of runaway leaders PSV Eindhoven.

Slot deploys an attacking brand of free-flowing football at Feyenoord and I think he’d be the ideal man to usher West Ham into an exciting new era of success.

He predominantly uses a 4-2-3-1 system but also switches up to a 4-3-3 at times. Slot’s managerial style has been likened to Marcelo Bielsa.

The Feyenoord boss likes his full-backs to push high up the pitch with his two centre-back’s splitting and a ‘ball-playing’ goalkeeper essentially becoming a third defender. He is the man we should be going after is you ask me.

Unfortunately for West Ham though, Arne Slot will not come cheap.
