‘He is working on’: Journalist now shares how Red Bull are feeling amid Adrian Newey exit claims

Red Bull have offered their response to speculation around the future of chief designer Adrian Newey.

German publication Auto Motor und Sport have claimed that Newey is unhappy with the current situation at the team.

And Planet F1 journalist Thomas Maher has now revealed the team’s stance on the 65-year-old.

AMuS also reported that team principal Christian Horner wanted to redeploy Newey to help the team comply with F1’s cost cap.

Horner apparently wanted him to focus fully on the RB17 hypercar, which will enter production next year.

Newey, one of the most decorated designers in F1 history, was the architect of the sport’s most dominant car ever last season.

The RB19 won 21 out of 22 races, and its successor has made an ominous start to the new campaign with 87 points from a possible 88.

Red Bull remain calm amid Adrian Newey talk

Maher says Red Bull aren’t worried that they may lose Newey in the near future despite suggestions to the contrary.

There are ‘no plans’ to withdraw him from the F1 division, and his absence from the upcoming Australian Grand Prix is planned.

“No concerns within Red Bull that Adrian Newey is going anywhere else any time soon,” Maher wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

“He is working on RB17 but has not been pulled off the F1 side, and no plans for him to do so.

“He won’t be in Australia, but will be in Japan.”

Ferrari hold long-term interest in Newey

Speaking after the conclusion of the 2023 season, Newey lifted the lid on three offers from Ferrari over the course of his career.

He admits that there’s a certain ‘magic’ about the ‘amazing’ Prancing Horse brand, but is also wary of being ‘torn apart’ if he doesn’t deliver.

David Croft ‘would love’ to see him follow Lewis Hamilton to Maranello, and it remains to be seen whether Fred Vasseur launches a fourth concerted attempt to capture him.

If Newey did express a willingness to leave the team, then the Scuderia won’t be the only ones in contention.

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff has refused to rule out a move as the Silver Arrows plot their own route back to the top in F1.
