Comedy series that was canceled by Peacock is embarking on a Netflix 'comeback tour'

Netflix has earned something of a reputation for canceling shows in recent years but the streaming service has turned savior for its newest arrival, Girls5eva.

Originally released by streaming rival Peacock and executive produced by Tina Fey, Girls5eva premiered in 2021 to rave reviews, with its first season earning 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, following the release of its second installment in 2022, Peacock made the decision not to renew the comedy series, prompting Netflix to step up and take the show under its wing.

What is Girls5eva about?

Girls5eva tells the story of a girl group from the late 1990s whose careers are reignited when their one and only hit gets sampled by a young rapper.

Its members, Dawn, Wickie, Summer, and Gloria, decide to give their music dreams one last shot in an effort to banish their one-hit-wonder status.

This time, however, the quartet must balance their revived music careers with spouses, kids, real jobs, debt, aging parents, and shoulder pain.

The first two seasons of Girls5eva are being added to Netflix in the US on Thursday, March 14, 2024.

Season 3 is coming too

Also arriving on the same day as its previous two installments is the long-awaited third season of Girls5eva.

After the titular girl group completed their long-awaited comeback album, Returnity, in season 2, the new chapter sees the band embark on their first tour in over 20 years.

But with no plan, tour manager, or venues booked, the women take a giant step into the unknown and face plenty of challenges – from life on the road to a run-in with the world’s biggest pop star – on their journey to finally reach ‘the big time’ once again.

Seasons 1 and 2 of Girls5eva and the newly released third installment will be released on Netflix in the US on Thursday, March 14, 2024.
