Liverpool’s answer to Dujon Sterling gets good news alongside Jack Butland - report

Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland isn’t the only one on the verge of an England recall with Liverpool’s Joe Gomez also set to be selected.

The Ibrox stopper, 31, looks set to be recalled to the England set-up for the first time in over five years amid a run of superb form at Rangers this season.

Having earned nine caps for the Three Lions earlier in his career, a recall would be a huge testament to the goalie’s form since making the switch to Rangers in the summer.

But it appears that it’s not only Jack Butland who is going to be rewarded for his fine form with Joe Gomez also set for an England recall four years in the making.

Joe Gomez set for England call

At least that’s according to Sky Sports, who are led to believe that the versatile Anfield defender, 26, is set for his first call up since October 2020.

Joe Gomez – who is Liverpool’s answer to Dujon Sterling it would appear – has played in four positions for the Premier League club so far this season.

A centre-back by trade, the defender has also turned out at both right-back and left-back whilst Jurgen Klopp has also used him as a defensive midfielder.

That versatility appears to have caught the eye of England manager Gareth Southgate who looks ready to recall Joe Gomez ahead of pre-Euro 2024 friendlies with Brazil and Belgium.

Rangers star Jack Butland Euro 2024 bound?

With the England squad set to be announced just hours before Jack Butland takes to the field to face Benfica, it could come as timely boost for the Rangers goalkeeper.

Butland – who has spent the last few seasons warming Premier League benches – has really grabbed his opportunity at Ibrox with both hands and deserves every credit.

It’s not easy for any player north of the border to break into the England squad and even if Butland is a goalkeeper it highlights his performances in a Rangers jersey.

With this Southgate’s final squad before Euro 2024, it suggests Jack Butland might just be doing enough to secure a plane ticket to Germany too.
