'Legend' who worked in movies for 50 years dies in horror car crash - 'Extraordinary'

Stuntman Grant Page’s son has tragically announced his death, with the movie star passing away after a car accident, his family has said.

The Mad Max and Furiosa star was driving alone when his vehicle collided with a tree, and emergency services rushed to the scene. Ambulances and cops dashed to the incident within minutes, but tragically despite their best efforts, could not prevent Grant Page’s death from the crash. His son has described the stuntman as a “legend” and said he was still working on upcoming movies. Tributes have since poured in for the celebrity.

Grant Page’s son, Leroy, 49, announced his death in a statement with Daily Mail Australia.

He said: “He died in very high spirits and he was very motivated. He was very happy.”

No further details about the incident has been confirmed, with the accident taking place on Thursday, in New South Wales, Australia.

The star featured in a number of Hollywood movies, including several Mad Max films, Roadgames, The Man from Hong Kong, Stunt Rock and Deathcheaters.

He recently worked on Mad Max prequel Furiosa, which is scheduled to premiere later this year, as well as Three Thousand Years of Longing.

Grant Page’s career began in the 1970s, and friends in the industry have honored the star with tributes.

Film critic Dr Luke Buckmaster called Page “bold, brilliant, devilishly cheeky” saying he has left behind a legacy “written in tyre streaks and burn marks”.

Page is survived by his four sons, Leroy, Adrian, 52, Jeremy, 51, and Gulliver 47, as well as ex-wife Joy and partner Ulli.

After hearing about his death, Grant Page’s former manager Brian Trenchard-Smith said yesterday: “Grant Page was Australia’s pioneer stunt performer and my friend for fifty-two years.

“I will miss him terribly. He was an inspiring man, who lived uncompromisingly.

“Most people accept that age weighs upon us, gravity holds us down, death awaits us if we dare too much. Not necessarily, said Grant, as he successfully tampered with the laws of physics and probability.”

Page’s manager also spoke of his “extraordinary ability” when it came to his stuntman skills.

He added: “He’s the guy you get to dodge the cars, slide down the cliff on fire, jump into the water and fight the shark.”

Jamie Blanks, Australian director, penned: “I just learned the devastating news of the passing of legendary Australian stuntman, and my dear friend, Grant Page.

“Grant was one of the most wonderful, kind and brave men I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.

“I mourn the loss of this Aussie legend deeply today. RIP Grant.”
