Predicted Leeds United XI to face Millwall as Dan James vs Willy Gnonto debate continues

Leeds United have had a nice nine-day break ahead of tomorrow’s match with Millwall.

The Whites rounded off an extremely busy schedule with a 2-0 victory away at Sheffield Wednesday last Friday and head into this game with over a week of rest and recovery behind them.

Daniel Farke has no fresh injury concerns to contend with and will also welcome both Jaidon Anthony and Jamie Shackleton back into contention at Elland Road.

Even in such a tough run of matches, Farke has liked to keep changes at a minimum recently and so it would not be a surprise if that was the same tomorrow, though there are some dilemmas.

Here is our predicted XI for the match.

Goalkeeper

Illan Meslier was impressive again at Hillsborough last week and of course, keeps his place in goal.

Defence

Connor Roberts was handed his first league start against Stoke City last time out at Elland Road but was back on the bench at Wednesday and it is likely to be the same again, with Archie Gray at right-back.

On the other flank, Junior Firpo is also expected to keep his place after providing a lovely assist for Patrick Bamford last time out, meaning Sam Byram is on the bench.

Pascal Struijk still isn’t overly close to a return to the squad and so Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon continue their fine partnership at the back.

Midfield

Based on the decisions at the back, both Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara start alongside one another once again in midfield, a duo which has looked very strong in Leeds’ run in 2024.

Willy Gnonto or Dan James continues to be the biggest selection debate at the moment with both having scored in their most recent starts.

Gnonto has actually scored all six of his goals this season on the road, while the vast majority of James‘ 11 have come at Elland Road.

However, Farke is one to reward good form and so Gnonto is handed another start, with Georginio Rutter, Crysencio Summerville and Bamford making up the rest of the front four.

Predicted XI: Meslier; Gray, Rodon, Ampadu, Firpo; Gruev, Kamara; Gnonto, Rutter, Summerville, Bamford
