‘He has got the X-factor’: Paul Merson seriously impressed by £75,000-a-week Chelsea player

Chelsea are having a torrid campaign under head coach Mauricio Pochettino, but one Stamford Bridge player is doing all he can.

Just like last season, Chelsea are not going to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season.

Chelsea lost to Liverpool in the final of the Carabao Cup. The Blues just have the FA Cup to play for between now and the end of the season.

While we can point fingers at Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino and a number of players for failing this season, one player who has done well for the London club this campaign is Cole Palmer.

Palmer, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, joined Chelsea from Manchester City in the summer of 2023.

The 21-year-old has been arguably the best and most consistent player for the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners.

The £75,000-a-week (Spotrac) attacker has made 35 appearances for Chelsea this season. He has scored 15 goals and given 11 assists in those games.

Paul Merson gives verdict on Chelsea and England star Cole Palmer

Former Arsenal star Paul Merson has been hugely impressed by Palmer, and the Sky Sports pundit thinks that he deserves his place in the latest England squad.

Merson said about Palmer on Sky Sports News (12:48 pm, March 16, 2024): “I like him. He has got the X-factor. He connects things, he is a good footballer, he sees a pass. I am saying he is a decent international player, no, a good international player.”

My View: Cole Palmer could star for Chelsea for years

In my opinion, Cole Palmer could star for Chelsea for years to come. I think that he is a rising star and is a gem of a footballer.

Palmer is a very classy player who scores goals and creates chances. He is creative and can pick out a brilliant pass.

Let us not forget that Palmer is only 21 now. He is bound to get better and improve in the coming years.
