Big Villa statistic will give West Ham great hope for crunch clash

West Ham can take great heart from a statistic that has emerged ahead of the crunch Premier League clash with Aston Villa.

West Ham have already been boosted by the fact David Moyes has a near fully fit squad for the visit of Aston Villa.

With Villa set to be without three of their best players at the London Stadium confidence should be high for the Hammers.

That’s not to mention the fact West Ham have only lost once in their last 11 meetings with Aston Villa.

Hammers have excellent record vs Villa in recent years

That was Unai Emery’s rejuvenated Villa, though, and a convincing one at that – 4-1 at Villa Park in the reverse fixture.

Both clubs are through to the last eight of their respective European competitions after memorable nights.

And now they face off in the Premier League with both chasing European qualification.

But a big Aston Villa statistic will give West Ham great hope for the crunch clash in the Euro race.

Villa struggle against fellow top half sides

Because Emery’s side have lost their last four league games against teams currently in the top half of the table.

Defeats to Spurs, Newcastle and Man United twice mean seventh placed West Ham should be feeling good about the game, especially at home.

In that run Villa also lost 3-1 at home to 11th placed Chelsea in the FA Cup.

The Hammers can look to take advantage of any Villa nerves about holding on to fourth place.

The manager has a near fully fit squad for the game besides Maxwel Cornet.

Big hope for near fully fit Hammers

Emerson faces a late fitness test.

And Lucas Paqueta was withdrawn as a precaution against Freiburg after feeling the calf which kept him out for six weeks at the start of the year.

Neither side can move up the table with wins. But they can consolidate their existing positions for the run-in.

West Ham vs Aston Villa kicks off at 2pm on Sunday March 17th.
