TV star's 'heartbreaking' loss after securing life-changing investment

The Apprentice series 16 winner Harpreet Kaur may have a thriving business and be ready to plan a huge wedding with her co-star Akshay Thakrar, but the BBC show star explains how her career was hit by a battle she was dealing with in her personal life recently.

Harpreet Kaur entered The Apprentice series 16 back in 2022. She was ready to go into business with Lord Allan Sugar and managed to land a sweet deal with the billionaire. She’s now the proud owner of Oh So Yum, a dessert company that delivers. She and Lord Sugar are no longer business partners, but The Sun reports they parted ways on “good terms” after the BBC show.

The Apprentice’s Harpreet Kaur suffered father’s death

When Apprentice viewers first met Harpreet, she was a focused contestant with a will to win the series.

She has had huge success in winning the show, but the BBC star endured a heartbreak last year which “heavily impacted her as well as her focus and goals,” in her career.

Following her father’s death, Harpreet explains on her podcast, The Couples Boardroom with Harpreet & Akshay, how “she wasn’t 100 per cent focused” on work after the loss.

The businesswoman added how she “fell into a pit of feeling sorry for herself” and thought: “Life is tough and life is difficult.”

Taking to Instagram this March, Harpreet remembered a father a year on since his death. She shared a photo of them together and wrote: “Hoping goodbyes aren’t forever, one year since we saw that smile – till we meet again. My dad was amazing in so many ways but wasn’t so sure when it came to the little things in life- my sister bought me those roses and pretended they were from dad… he always got away with it.”

Harpreet thanks her partner

After reflecting on how she wasn’t impressed with her progress in 2023, Harpreet explained she “…wanted to say something really soft” on her podcast.

Speaking to her partner, she added: “I want to say thank you. It feels very formal, but you’ve really supported me and I feel like it’s so important to have a partner and to surround yourself with people that keep you going, keep you boosted and keep you motivated…”

Akshay responded: “You don’t have to say thank you. That’s what partners do, you’re meant to lift each other up and make sure you’re being your best version, and I’m so happy to see that not only you’re now being your best version, but this is even a better Harpreet that won The Apprentice.”

Per an exclusive interview with Yahoo, Akshay and Harpreet revealed their plans for a “big fat Indian wedding” this year.

The Apprentice star wanted to ‘look skinny on TV’

Delving into what life was like filming The Apprentice, Harpreet explained how she was “so hungry for three months on end.”

The business owner said she wanted to “look skinny in her dresses during the show.”

In order to achieve the way she wanted to look, Harpreet explained: “When you go onto The Apprentice, you have to tell them you’re dietary requirements, because they’re gonna feed you when you’re doing the tasks and stuff. I wanted to diet, lose weight… so I told them that I was gluten-free because I wanted to avoid bread and pasta. I’m a pescatarian, so I eat fish and veg, but I think I told them that I was vegetarian and I wanted a gluten-free diet.”

The dessert company founder, continued: “I really wish I didn’t do that because I was so miserable and hungry.”
