Glasner could now make Olise even better as ‘brilliant’ Crystal Palace gem continues to shine - Our View

Crystal Palace could now have the opportunity to make Michael Olise even better as Daniel Munoz continues to thrive in Oliver Glasner’s system.

Crystal Palace will hope to soon be revitalised by the return of Michael Olise from injury, in what will be the Frenchman’s first taste at life under Oliver Glasner.

It’s been over six weeks since the Eagles last saw Olise in action, where he suffered an arguably needless injury against Brighton at the start of February.

The blow was avoidable as Roy Hodgson opted to bring the 22-year-old on at halftime during the contest at the Amex despite the understanding that the attacker wasn’t fit enough to start.

Olise has already missed seven games due to the recurrence of a hamstring problem against Brighton however, Glasner could soon be given the chance to work with the star player, with his system allowing one player to make the returning ace even better.

Daniel Munoz could make Michael Olise even better

By shifting from playing four at the back to fielding a back three, Glasner has handed Palace more creative freedom on the flanks thanks to the work of his fullbacks.

Daniel Munoz in particular has thrived under the new manager’s tactics, showcasing his threat in the final third and providing a strong cover in both advanced and defensive areas deployed as a wing-back.

The 27-year-old was the catalyst behind Palace’s opening goal against Luton Town last week, dispossessing the opposition and then pulling off an impressive run and pass to set up Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Palace’s new strength on the right could be fundamental to Olise’s form when he returns, with Munoz’s presence in Glasner’s set-up having all the tools to unleash an even stronger side to the Frenchman.

Daniel Munoz has been instrumental under Oliver Glasner

Averaging 0.50 goal-creating actions per 90 in the Premier League this season, the Colombian ranks in the top 2% of fullbacks in the top flight, via FBref, reinforcing how deadly he can be in the final third.

In the case of Olise, Munoz’s impact could allow the 22-year-old an added sense of freedom going forward, with his cover useful both defensively and offensively on the right.

By playing the highly-rated gem in the front line with the defender supporting, Glasner could see Olise flourish thanks to the energy and “brilliant” application of Munoz in that area, as he was once lauded by journalist Edmund Brack.

It’s seen every week in the Premier League just how impactful playing a wing-back can be on a winger, particularly when having a defensive asset that has the ability to act as a playmaker.

In his six appearances in the league so far, Munoz averages 1.2 key passes per game, hinting at just the impact he could have on Olise when Palace attack down the right side.
