Amad Diallo shares why he had to change his mind before scoring Manchester United winner v Liverpool

Manchester United winger Amad Diallo admitted having to change his mind to score the dramatic winning goal against Liverpool.

Has everyone got their breath back?

United are into the semi-finals of the FA Cup but few could have expected the quarter-final clash with Liverpool to play out like it did.

Scott McTominay put United ahead, only for Liverpool to score two quick-fire goals and flip the game on its head.

Antony hauled United level to force extra-time but Harvey Elliott’s deflected effort handed the initiative right back to Liverpool.

Marcus Rashford slotted home to make it 3-3 and with Liverpool caught up the pitch, Alejandro Garnacho found Amad Diallo to hit the winner and send Old Trafford wild.

Amad Diallo on his dramatic goal

Amad has been waiting for his big moment.

United struck a deal worth up to £37million in 2021, seeing major potential in the Ivorian as he made the move from Atalanta.

Amad has been out on loan to Rangers and Sunderland, dazzling with the latter before heading back to United.

This season has been a frustrating one but he has now had his moment, sending United to Wembley against Coventry City.

Speaking to ITV after the final whistle, Amad admitted that he actually wanted to give the ball back to Garnacho as they ran towards goal.

With one defender between them, Amad seemingly felt that passing to Garnacho was the best move – but he had to quickly change his mind and go for goal.

Amad’s shot kissed the post and found the net, with the winger admitting that it was ‘unbelievable’ and a dream to score such a goal.

“I wanted to give it back to Garnacho but I see the defender and I have to go on my own. It is unbelievable, it is a dream for me to score the last goal for Manchester United. I want to say thanks to the supporters. It is one of the best games of the season so we want to continue like this,” said Amad.

Amad can play in the semi-finals

Some may think that Amad’s red card after the goal means that he can’t face Coventry in the semi-finals.

In fact, Amad will be available to play as the suspension isn’t competition-specific and he will instead serve his suspension against Brentford later this month.

Amad may not start the semi-final clash but being available is a boost, especially as he will have dreams of another dramatic goal.

Few will even remember that red card as Amad has delivered the crucial moment in an Old Trafford classic, one people will talk about for years to come – and he must now use that moment to really kick on produce more quality in a United shirt.
