'We are strong': Georginio Rutter makes Leeds United promotion claim after win over Millwall

Leeds United went top of the Championship table on Sunday with an easy 2-0 win over Millwall and Georginio Rutter spoke about the race for promotion – after winning the man of the match award.

In true Daniel Farke style, Leeds cruised to a victory, a 12th win in 13 league games and 10 clean sheets within that run. Leeds seem to be hitting momentum just at the right time, as we close in on promotion.

Indeed, we have now overtaken Leicester – and while they have a game in hand, that is some feat given The Foxes were 17 points ahead at one point. With eight games to go, promotion looks a real possibility.

Darren Bent even claims that Leeds and Ipswich will finish top two, with the Tractor Boys picking up a 6-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday. Rutter was asked about promotion after the 2-0 win, on Sky Sports.

“I don’t know, in football you never know. But, today, we showed everyone that we are strong. We have eight games left, you know it is not easy. We need to be focused and see what happens after,” he said.

Georginio Rutter makes Leeds promotion claim after Millwall win

What is interesting from Rutter’s comments, amid the standard – taking every game as it comes answer – is that he feels the win reminds the rest of the league just how strong this Leeds United side are now.

Since the turn of the year, Leeds have been scoring goals constantly – keeping clean sheets. A recipe for promotion. Farke knows what he is doing, and has timed the momentum well. We look good for it.

Next up, is a trip to Watford on Good Friday. A massive game, against a side that have the capability to go and beat the best in this League – but also, they can lose to the worst. Leeds should beat Watford.
